Join Our Team
Gate repair is not glamorous work. You’re crouching next to a hinge in the rain, or tracing a wiring fault on a opener that someone’s nephew “fixed” six months ago. The job is figuring it out, doing it right, and leaving before the homeowner even has time to worry. That’s what we do at Calder Gate Repair, and if that sounds like your kind of day, keep reading.
We’ve been running jobs this way since 2009. Every tech arrives in uniform, every price is written before anything starts, and every repair is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise – a written guarantee, not a talking point. We work clean, we communicate, and we don’t leave a customer guessing. The people who fit here are the ones who care about the quality of the work itself, not just clocking out.
Who We’re Looking For
- Gate Repair Technician: Someone who can read a gate the way a mechanic reads an engine – systematically, without guessing – and who doesn’t consider the job done until the gate cycles clean.
- Electric Gate Technician: A tech with a background in low-voltage or electromechanical systems who’s comfortable diagnosing control boards, limit switches, and wiring faults without getting rattled.
- Gate Opener Specialist: Hands-on experience with one or more major opener brands – LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Linear, Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, Elite, or Mighty Mule – and a willingness to learn the rest.
- Apprentice / Helper: No gate experience required. You need good hands, a willingness to ask questions on the first day and retain the answers on the second, and zero interest in cutting corners.
- Dispatcher / Scheduler: The person who keeps the day from falling apart – organized, calm under a full board, and good at talking to customers who are stressed because their gate quit at 7 a.m.
- Customer Service Representative: Someone who genuinely likes solving problems over the phone, knows how to explain a repair without condescending, and can book a job accurately on the first call.
What We Offer
Real Training and a Clear Path Forward
We train on nine major gate opener brands because that’s what the job actually requires. An apprentice who starts with us learns the trade the way it should be learned – in the field, next to an experienced tech, on real jobs. The path from apprentice to lead is defined by skill and reliability, not by how long you’ve been around.
Work You Can Be Proud Of
When every job has a written price, a written guarantee, and a free second visit if something isn’t right, you’re not cutting corners to hit a number. You’re doing the job properly because that’s the standard. Technicians who take pride in their work fit here. Those who don’t, won’t last long – and that’s fine, because the ones who stay are building something worth staying for.
Local Crew, National Backing
Each Calder location is independently owned and operated, which means you’re part of a local team that makes its own calls day to day. But you’re also backed by a national brand with established supplier relationships, brand training, and the operational framework of the Relay Home Co. family. It’s a combination that’s hard to find at a small independent shop.
Steady, Year-Round Demand
Gates break in January. They break in July. Electric openers don’t check the calendar before failing, and neither does a hinge that’s been stressed for five years. Gate repair doesn’t have an off-season, which means the work is consistent for technicians who show up and perform. We’re not scrambling to find jobs to fill a schedule – we’re looking for people who can handle a full one.
No Experience? Read This.
If you’ve done HVAC, auto mechanics, electrical work, fencing, or any trade where you diagnosed a problem and fixed it with your hands, more transfers here than you’d think. Gate systems are electromechanical – motors, limit switches, control boards, hardware under load. The logic is familiar if you’ve worked in a related trade.
What we teach: the specific brands we work on, our job process, how we communicate with customers, and how we document a repair. The first months are structured. You’ll work alongside an experienced tech, not be handed a van and a work order on day three. We’d rather slow down the training than rush someone onto a job they’re not ready for. If you’re serious about learning a trade with real, consistent demand, this is a reasonable place to start.
How to Apply
Call us at (903) 417-0793 – a live person answers every call, including this one – or use the application form below. Tell us where you’re based, what you’ve worked on (trades, tools, brands, anything relevant), and when you can start. Hiring is handled locally, at the Calder location nearest you. We don’t need a polished resume. We need enough to know you’re serious.
