Training & Ongoing Support
You don’t need to know how to fix a gate to own a Calder Gate Repair franchise. You need to know how to run a business, or be willing to learn. We teach the trade from the ground up, the same way Nico learned it: on real gates, with real tools, until it sticks. The training program assumes you’ve never touched a limit switch in your life. By launch day, you’ll know what one does, why it fails, and how to price the fix. We’d rather spend three extra days in training than send an owner into the field who can’t explain the work to a customer standing in their driveway.
Initial Training
Training starts with the basics and builds into full operational readiness. Week one covers gate anatomy: hinges, tracks, rollers, operators, photo eyes, safety edges, keypads, and the wiring that connects them. You’ll learn the difference between a swing gate and a slide gate, and why that difference changes the repair approach entirely. We train on the nine brands Calder services: LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Linear, Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, Elite, and Mighty Mule. Each has its own quirks, and you’ll see them all.
From there, training shifts to the business side. You’ll learn our dispatch software, how to track a technician’s arrival time live, how to send before-and-after photos to customers, and how to generate a digital invoice from the job site. Hiring comes next: what a good tech looks like, how to interview for reliability, how to run background checks, and how to build a crew that shows up in uniform every single day. Marketing training covers local search, the lead engine, and how to convert a phone call into a booked job. By the end, you’ll understand the full loop: lead comes in, live person answers, tech is dispatched with a trackable ETA, work is done, photos are sent, invoice is paid from a phone.
Nico runs the technical portion personally. His approach is simple: he explains what a limit switch actually does before he replaces it, because he figures an informed owner makes better decisions than a confused one. You’ll get the same treatment. No jargon without explanation. No procedure without context. No test you haven’t already passed in practice.
Launch Support
Opening day is not the end of training. It’s the beginning of the supported launch. Calder helps you set up your local marketing footprint before you ever take a service call: Google Business Profile, local landing pages, service-area targeting, and the phone routing that connects every call to a live person, 24/7. The lead engine is already built. Your job is to answer and show up.
For the first several weeks, you’ll have direct access to field coaches who review your jobs, your pricing, and your customer communication. Send them a job photo and they’ll tell you if the wiring looks clean. Send them a quote and they’ll tell you if the price fits the market. First-jobs coaching covers everything from diagnosing a stuck gate to presenting a written price without a customer feeling pressured. The 365-Day Done Right Promise, the free second visit, the written price before work starts: those are not aspirational. They’re trained behaviors, practiced in role-play before you ever knock on a real door.
Ongoing Support
You don’t graduate and disappear. Ongoing support is a standing part of the model:
- Field coaching on demand: Stuck on a Viking opener that won’t close? Send photos and a video. A senior tech walks you through the diagnosis in real time.
- Marketing engine updates: The local lead system is maintained centrally, with adjustments as Google changes its rules. You stay focused on fixes, not algorithms.
- Vendor relationships: Parts pricing negotiated at the brand level, passed down to every location. You get opener motors, photo eyes, and circuit boards without paying retail markup.
- Technology stack: Dispatch, tracking, photo updates, digital invoicing, and the live-answer phone system are all included and updated as part of the brand infrastructure.
- National brand campaigns: Calder and the Relay Home Co. family run awareness campaigns that build trust before the customer ever calls your number. The Relay Visibility Guarantee is the hook; your execution is the proof.
- Peer network: Owners share fix notes, supplier leads, and hiring wins through the owner group. Someone else has solved the problem you’re facing, and they’ll tell you how.
You’re Never Alone
Ownership doesn’t mean isolation. You’ve got trainers, field coaches, a live support line, and an owner network behind you. Call (903) 417-0793 to ask what training looks like in practice, or request the full franchise details below.
